LANSING, Mich. – The Future Automotive Career Exposition (FACE) that brought hundreds of car enthusiasts and industry talent to the North American International Auto Show’s AutoMobili-D at Detroit’s Cobo Center in 2018 returns for a second year. The expo is planned for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019.
FACE is a partnership between the NAIAS, Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Talent and Economic Development Department of Michigan (Ted) that puts attendees in touch with leading employers and professionals in the automotive industry and allows them to gain valuable advice to improve their future career-search goals.
And companies from around the world will soon get their chance to see Michigan’s innovative mobility and automotive talent prowess during the NAIAS and Michiganders will have an opportunity to learn about careers that bring new vehicle designs from the drawing board to the show floor.
“Michigan is known as the state that put America on wheels,” Ted Interim Director Jeremy Hendges said. “What people don’t know – and especially our young professionals – is that Michigan is much more than that and the automotive industry brings more than assembly lines. It brings cutting-edge technology that will transform the way we move and the way we do business. And Michigan is leading the way in that, too.”
FACE is one of the state’s efforts to grow and develop talent and raise awareness of rewarding, good-paying careers. Michigan employers are looking to fill high-skill jobs in many industries, with more than 811,000 career openings in high-demand, high-wage fields expected through 2024.
New this year is a sherpa panel featuring young automotive-sector professionals who will share their stories on why they chose to live and work in Michigan. The expo will also feature mock interviews, opportunities to talk with human resource representatives from world-renowned automotive companies and suppliers and learn more about Michigan’s leading universities and higher-education institutions.
“The automotive industry offers opportunities unimaginable to young professionals,” said Bill Golling, 2019 NAIAS chairman. “We’re bringing the latest automotive technologies, advanced manufacturing and vehicle design under the same roof to showcase the industry’s bright future for top talent and careers at all levels. We are honored to partner with MEDC and TED to connect professionals directly with the innovative companies behind the designs and look forward to another successful year with FACE.”
NAIAS attracts a global audience to Michigan, the global center of the auto industry and home to 16 global automakers, more than 1,800 suppliers and 75 percent of the world’s automotive research and development. These local employers are looking for top talent to fill jobs, including positions requiring science, technology, engineering, arts and math skills.
