Michigan Women's Commission Supports Lisa Cook's Nomination to the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors
February 08, 2022
Muna Jondy, Chair of the Michigan Women's Commission, and Cheryl Bergman, CEO of the Michigan Women's Commission, issued the following statement today supporting Lisa Cook, President Joe Biden's nominee to the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors:
"Lisa Cook is overwhelmingly qualified to serve on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and the Michigan Women's Commission strongly encourages her confirmation.
"Despite recent attacks on Cook's expertise and qualifications, her background and experience should speak for itself. Between her Ph.D. in Economics, a post at the U.S. Department of Treasury's Financial Crisis Think Tank, her role as professor of economics and international relations at Michigan State University, her service on the White House Council of Economic Advisors and her recent election to Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Board of Directors, Cook has repeatedly proven her bona fides. We would all benefit from her confirmation to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.
"Her background would help inform critical and equitable Federal Reserve decisions about credit, interest rates and the overall economic stability of our country and all our working families, producing better solutions, greater innovations and higher financial returns. To start seeing those gains, the Senate should swiftly confirm Cook to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors."
