Description:

Beginning Farmer Field Day will held on July 22, 2025 at the West Central Michigan Research and Extension Center, 5185 N. Oceana Dr., Hart, MI 49420, from 9-4 p with registration beginning at 8:30. This field day is targeted for beginning, new and small farmers or those interested in growing new crops such as vegetables, fruit, Christmas trees or chestnuts.  There will be a variety of topics covered including soil health, identifying and scouting for pests and beneficials, choosing varieties and rootstocks, planting pollinators, importance of cover crops and biodiversity above and below the soil surface, marketing, making a business plan, and where to find help in the area for additional assistance. Many of the demonstrations and presentations will be in the field so dress for the weather.  Some presentations will be made in the conference center where a catered lunch will be provided. 

There is a cost of $20/person and pre-registration is required. The cost includes lunch and a hat.

This field day is a cooperative effort by the Oceana Conservation District, MSUE and the Oceana County Farm Bureau in Partnership with the West Central Research Station. Contact lynda.herremans@macd.org or register by  using the tab in the attached agenda.
