Transitory Food Units and Mobile Food Establishments

Both Transitory Food Unit (TFU) and Mobile Food Establishments are permanently licensed food operations that are intended to be transportable from one location to Another. TFU and Mobile Food Establishments can occur in various physical forms including but not limited to fully enclosed trailer, pushcart, vehicle, watercraft, tent, or other design that is movable. Licensing as either a TFU or Mobile Food Establishment will depend upon the menu, intended food operations, and physical construction of the unit. Contact the Local Health Department to discuss your operation if you have questions about licensing.

The Notification of Intent to Operate form is not intended to be completed during the plan review process; however, before serving food within the jurisdiction of a Local Health Department, the license holder is required to notify the Local Health Department in writing of each location in the jurisdiction at which food will be served and the dates and hours of service.
