AmeriCorps is a national service program designed to strengthen citizenship and the ethic of service by engaging thousands of Americans on a full-time or part-time basis to help communities address their toughest challenges. To support the placement of AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in communities, the AmeriCorps agency administers grants at the federal level and works in partnership with states to develop service programs and create a community-based national service network. The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) is the administrative agent for Michigan's AmeriCorps.
Federal funds are currently available to support new and recompeting Michigan's AmeriCorps programs to start in the fall of 2026 for a 12-month program cycle.
In response to America’s youth mental health crisis, Michigan is joining forces with 10 other states, the Schultz Family Foundation, Pinterest and AmeriCorps to recruit, train, and deploy the nation’s first Youth Mental Health Corps to help young people access critical mental health resources.
AmeriCorps NCCC is a full-time, team-based residential service program for 18–26-year-olds. AmeriCorps members serving in the NCCC program represent a wide variety of socioeconomic, cultural, geographic, and educational backgrounds. AmeriCorps members serving in the NCCC program are assigned to one of four regional campuses and then placed into teams ranging between 8-12 members. The teams complete a variety of service projects, which are generally 3 to 13 weeks in duration, and respond to local communities’ needs throughout the United States and territories.

Aedin Seck is a University of Michigan graduate with a degree in Film and Screenwriting. She currently serves as a college adviser at Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids, where she leverages her Center for Campus Involvement, programming background to help students connect with higher education opportunities.
Kelly MacDonald served with the AmeriCorps READY program in Detroit through Wayne State University from 2023-2024. AmeriCorps READY AmeriCorps members educate citizens and engage them in efforts to improve climate change resiliency through identification and intervention of indoor and outdoor environmental hazards, improvement of residential energy efficiency, implementation of green infrastructure, and clean water and air stewardship opportunities. Activities include community outreach and engagement, green infrastructure installation and demonstration, healthy home assessments, and resident education.
