AmeriCorps is a national service program designed to strengthen citizenship and the ethic of service by engaging thousands of Americans on a full-time or part-time basis to help communities address their toughest challenges. To support the placement of AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in communities, the AmeriCorps agency administers grants at the federal level and works in partnership with states to develop service programs and create a community-based national service network. The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) is the administrative agent for Michigan's AmeriCorps.
Federal funds are currently available to support new and recompeting Michigan's AmeriCorps programs to start in the fall of 2026 for a 12-month program cycle.
In response to America’s youth mental health crisis, Michigan is joining forces with 10 other states, the Schultz Family Foundation, Pinterest and AmeriCorps to recruit, train, and deploy the nation’s first Youth Mental Health Corps to help young people access critical mental health resources.
AmeriCorps NCCC is a full-time, team-based residential service program for 18–26-year-olds. AmeriCorps members serving in the NCCC program represent a wide variety of socioeconomic, cultural, geographic, and educational backgrounds. AmeriCorps members serving in the NCCC program are assigned to one of four regional campuses and then placed into teams ranging between 8-12 members. The teams complete a variety of service projects, which are generally 3 to 13 weeks in duration, and respond to local communities’ needs throughout the United States and territories.
In addition to being the Head Counselor at Jackson High School and the direct counselor for this year’s senior class, Jill Raymond is also the supervisor to the AmeriCorps members with the Michigan College Advising Corps serving at her school.

Christine Merritt is an AmeriCorps Volunteer with the Michigan Education Corps. The Michigan Education Corps is administered by Hope Network and is a replication of the transformational Minnesota Reading Corps. When Christine walked through the doors of Bradford Academy, she quickly became a beacon of hope for students struggling with math.
Nicholas Betz-Thorn served with AmeriCorps READY between 2023-2025 and continues to support the current members as an alum staff member for the program. Upon graduation, Betz-Thorn was exploring his next steps but knew he wanted to take time to serve his community while also gaining professional experience.
