  • 2021 Michigan's AmeriCorps Member Celebration

    More than 500 Michigan's AmeriCorps State, VISTA, and National members came together virtually on November 18, 2021 for a day of training, networking, and recognition. The event, hosted by the Michigan Community Service Commission, helped prepare AmeriCorps members for their year of service and celebrated the courage of their commitment.

  • Funding For New and Recompeting Michigan's AmeriCorps Programs

    Federal funds are currently available to support new and recompeting Michigan's AmeriCorps programs to start in the fall of 2022 for a 12-month program cycle.

Member/Site Supervisors of the Month

  • MI AmeriCorps Member of the Month - October 2021: Tamisha Naylor, Red Cross Michigan's AmeriCorps Member of the Month

    OCTOBER 2021: Tamisha Naylor is serving her third term with the Together We Prepare (TWP) AmeriCorps program at the American Red Cross - East Central Bay Chapter in Flint. Together We Prepare AmeriCorps members serve as part of the disaster team helping to provide preparedness presentations and installing smoke alarms for members of the community. During her service with the Together We Prepare program, Tamisha has gone above and beyond to help not only the community, but also her fellow members across the state. 

  • MI AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month - November 2021: Shaun McKeon, Huron Pines Michigan's AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month

    NOVEMBER 2021: Shaun McKeon has been a site supervisor with the Huron Pines AmeriCorps (HPA) program for the past three years. Shaun currently wears many hats as the education director for Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC), which is the largest statewide conservation organization in the United States. Having done a term of service as an AmeriCorps member himself in 2011 as the prevention specialist and street outreach counselor with the Centre County Youth Service Bureau in Pennsylvania, Shaun has an acute understanding of the AmeriCorps mission. 

  • MI AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month - October 2021: Sally Smarsty, College Completion Corps Michigan's AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month

    OCTOBER 2021: As the Student Success Coordinator at Northwestern Michigan College, Sally Smarsty is a college access and success champion in every sense. She is passionate about connecting people and making college success coaching familiar to everyone. Sally also serves as an AmeriCorps site supervisor for two College Completion Corps Coaches (AmeriCorps members) serving at Northwestern Michigan College.

  • MI AmeriCorps Alum Spotlight - October 2021: Nicole Fisher, AmeriCorps Urban Safety Program Michigan's AmeriCorps Alum Spotlight

    OCTOBER 2021: Nicole Fisher is a dedicated and active resident of the Southwest Detroit community. Her passion for community service led her to join the AmeriCorps Urban Safety Program where she served multiple service terms between 2017-2020. The AmeriCorps Urban Safety Program (AMUS) implements initiatives to increase public safety and decrease victimization in neighborhoods throughout the City of Detroit. Not one to sit on the sidelines, Nicole steps up to make things happen. "AmeriCorps Urban Safety helped me strengthen my leadership abilities with the work I continue to do within the Southwest Detroit Community. I am the change I want to see in my community!"
