Governor's Service Awards Honor Michigan Volunteers
Lansing, Michigan, February 26, 2003 — Has a special volunteer touched your life or the life of someone you know? Nominate them today for the Governor’s Service Awards. While voluntary action goes largely unrecognized, volunteers are truly Michigan’s unsung heroes.
The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) announces the availability of the 2003 Governor’s Service Awards nomination form. The Governor’s Service Awards publicly recognize individuals, groups, and organizations that give tirelessly of themselves through volunteer service. Nominations may be submitted throughout the year.
Beginning in May 2003, award winners and honorable mention recipients will be recognized monthly. The Governor’s Service Awards winners will receive a plaque and a Governor’s Special Tribute at a local ceremony.
The Governor George Romney Lifetime Achievement Award for Volunteerism, the most prestigious of the Governor’s Service Awards, is given annually. The deadline for submission is Friday, March 21, 2003. This award will be presented on May 20, 2003, at the Grantmakers/Grantseekers conference in Lansing.

The Michigan Community Service Commission funds and supports programs that encourage all Michigan residents to volunteer.
