MiUI Minute: Issue 31
May 05, 2026
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI is being launched in two parts, with Tax functions now live, and Benefits functions scheduled to be available this summer.
In this issue of the MiUI Minute, we’re providing an update on the wage reporting and payment deadline extension and sharing new support resources that are available to you.
UIA Waives Penalties and Interest for Employers Submitting Wage Reports and Payments by May 31
UIA will not assess penalties or interest against employers’ unemployment insurance accounts under a one-time penalty and interest waiver for First Quarter 2026 wage reports and payments submitted after the April 27, 2026, deadline. To be eligible for the waiver, employers and third-party administrators (TPAs) must file the required quarterly wage reports and make a full payment for the quarter by May 31, 2026. This waiver is intended to give employers and TPAs additional time to become familiar with the processes for submitting quarterly wage reports, activating accounts, and making quarterly payments in the new MiUI user platform.
To learn more about this special provision, read the full press release.
Additionally, a new section of FAQs has been added to MiUI University about the topic of the One-Time Penalty and Interest Waiver. This features detailed answers to questions including:
- Who does this one-time waiver apply to?
- How do I request a waiver?
- When are penalties and interest removed?
- How can I see if the waiver was applied?
