MiUI Minute: Issue 35

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new unemployment tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI is being launched in two parts, with Tax functions now live, and Benefits functions scheduled to be available later in 2026.

In this issue of the MiUI Minute, we’re providing a reminder about the upcoming wage reporting deadline on July 27.

Quarter Two Wage Reports and Payments Due in MiUI by July 27

All quarterly wage reports must be submitted in MiUI. The deadline for employers and third-party administrators (TPAs) to file second quarter reports and submit unemployment tax payments is Monday, July 27.

Employers, even if you use a TPA to file your reports and make payments, you must have your own MiUI account. Initiate your account TODAY!

There are four ways to submit future and past due quarterly wage reports in MiUI:

  1. File Upload
    • When filing quarterly wage reports using the file upload method, only the following file formats are accepted: MiUI Delimited, ICESA, EFW2, or XML. The documents include:
      • File format overview.
      • File specifications and submission.
      • Record tables.
      • Error messages.
      • Example of file layout.
  2. Manual Entry
    • Employers or TPAs can manually enter individual wage records in MiUI using the Manual Entry filing method. This is the recommended method for employers with 10 or fewer employees but can be used by any employer.
  3. Copy Previous Quarter
    • With the Copy Previous Quarter filing method, employers and TPAs are able to use—and if needed, modify—data from a previous quarter. Many businesses will use this method now that they have submitted Q1 reports in MiUI. Search for the report to copy by using the drop-down menu item to select the appropriate quarter. Employee records can be added, edited, or deleted. Review the Quarterly Calculations section for accuracy, then certify and submit the report.
  4. No Employment and No Wage Report

Employers: Still need to initiate your employer account in MiUI?

Don’t hesitate. You will need to have your own MiUI account (even if you use a TPA) to be able to use the full MiUI functionality. The MiUI Minute Issue #33 provides detailed guidance about the importance of creating your own account and the steps to follow.

Support Resources are Available to You

Watch a video walkthrough on how to create a quarterly wage report file for upload. There is a video available for each of the four available MiUI file formats.

Additionally, you can visit the Quarterly Reports and Account Maintenance tiles on the MiUI University Trainings & Resources page to watch past seminar recordings about wage reports and payments and account activation:

On the Quarterly Wage Report Testing page on MiUI University, remember that you can test your wage file format using the Wage Report File Validation Tool if needed. It is recommended that you use the tool to test your file format prior to submitting your wage report in MiUI. Note: Do not upload actual employer information or personally identifiable employee data during the testing process.
