Unemployment Update #1

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new unemployment tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI is being launched in two parts, with Tax functions now live, and Benefits functions scheduled to be available later in 2026. 

In this first issue of the MiUI Unemployment Update, we’re introducing what you can expect from this newsletter and announcing the launch of MiUI University for Workers.

MiUI to Replace MiWAM in 2026

Hello Michigan Claimant Partners,

Welcome to the MiUI Unemployment Update, your go-to newsletter from Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) designed to provide high-priority information about the transition to UIA’s new MiUI computer system to you, our claimant partners. The transition is taking place in two parts: The first phase went live in February 2026 for Tax functions and the second phase is scheduled for later in 2026 for Benefits functions, wholly integrating UIA operations into one system. Expect the latest updates, learnings, and actionable steps in this and future newsletters.  

Introducing MiUI University for Workers

To keep you informed and help you stay on track ahead of the rollout, we are announcing the launch of the MiUI University for Workers webpage, which offers information about the transition to MiUI. This new page, found at Michigan.gov/MiUIUniversity, will be updated regularly with additional support resources to educate you about MiUI, including overviews, guides, and videos.
