LANSING, Mich. — This week, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Gary McDowell issued the following statement after participating in the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture’s (NASDA) Annual Meeting in Saratoga Springs, New York. NASDA is dedicated to enhancing American agriculture through policy, partnerships, and public engagement.

“I was honored to attend NASDA’s annual meeting with fellow agriculture directors from across the United States.

“Throughout this week, Michigan was recognized as a leader in agriculture. We are at the forefront of advancing agriculture economic development, empowering our rural communities through the newly developed Office of Rural Development, and how MDARD prepares to respond to various emergency incidents.

“I discussed several challenges we are facing in Michigan and how we are implementing real solutions under Governor Whitmer’s leadership. We are addressing the need to increase access to high-speed internet across our state to how we are empowering rural communities to compete for and win more projects and continue to create more good-paying jobs.

“MDARD is proud to continue to work with partners across the United States to help bolster a successful and robust food and agriculture landscape.”
