Pesticides can play a valuable role in controlling weeds, insects, and other pests. However, pesticides can harm wildlife and put endangered species at further risk if the applicator does not follow label directions or know the regulatory restrictions of the area pesticides are being applied in. The goal of this site is to ensure the use of registered pesticides do not adversely impact endangered species or the habitats necessary to their survival.
Below is a list of resources including general information about all federally listed endangered species thought to occur in Michigan, as well photographs for identification, critical habitat description and limited species location. Links are listed below each species name.
For some species, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) imposes regulatory restrictions on pesticide usage. EPA provides details in "county bulletins" and on pesticide labels. If the pesticide label of the product being used requires the applicator to comply with endangered species county bulletin information, such restrictions must be followed.
