Casino Disclaimer Statement

The casino interest registration disclaimer explains who is required to file a registration under Michigan law. However, certain persons are not required to submit registrations and will not be found in the summary or the searchable database.

Section 30 of the Michigan Campaign Finance Act (MCL 169.230) prohibits a committee from knowingly maintaining receipt of a contribution from a person with an interest in casinos licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. This summary may be used to assist in identifying persons who are prohibited from making political contributions to candidates or committees. However, the summary is compiled from registrations submitted under section 3 of the Casino Interest Registration Act (MCL 432.273) and does not include every person who is prohibited from making political contributions by section 7b of the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act (MCL 432.207b). Persons who hold or have an interest in Supplier Licenses issued by the Michigan Gaming Control Board are not required to submit registrations and are not included in the summary.

Please contact the Michigan Department of State, Legal and Regulatory Services Administration at 517-241-3463 if you have questions regarding the summary.

Casino Registration Act Summary

The Casino Registration Act (PA 69 of 1997) provides for the licensing and control of casino gaming operations, manufacturers and distributors of gaming devices and gaming employees.

The Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act (PA 69 of 1997) provides for the licensing and control of non-tribal casino gaming operations, manufacturers and distributors of gaming devices and gaming employees. The Act also prohibits persons with casino interests from making campaign contributions to candidates and committees, such as PAC’s and political parties, that are allowed to contribute to candidates. The prohibition against casino contributions is enforced by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

The Casino Interest Registration Act (PA 74 of 1997) compliments the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act by requiring some - but not all - persons having an interest in a casino to register with the Department of State's Bureau of Elections. From these registrations, a searchable database has been developed that assists in identifying persons who are prohibited from making contributions.
