Amateur Radio Operator
The Federal Communications Commission established amateur radio as a voluntary, non-commercial radio communications service. Licensed "ham" radio operators can improve their communications and technical skills, while providing the nation with a pool of trained radio operators and technicians who can provide essential communications during emergencies.
You must be licensed as a technical, general, conditional, advanced, or extra class amateur radio operator to apply for an ARO plate. Citizens Band (CB) operators and novice operators aren't eligible.
