Amateur radio and special organization plate options

Ordering an amateur radio or special organization license plate

  • Original amateur radio operator or special organization license plates may be ordered at a Secretary of State office or by mail using the designated license plate application.
  • If you already have an amateur radio operator or special organization plate, a replacement plate may be ordered through Online Services or while completing a tab renewal at a self-service station.

Amateur Radio Operator

The Federal Communications Commission established amateur radio as a voluntary, non-commercial radio communications service. Licensed "ham" radio operators can improve their communications and technical skills, while providing the nation with a pool of trained radio operators and technicians who can provide essential communications during emergencies.

You must be licensed as a technical, general, conditional, advanced, or extra class amateur radio operator to apply for an ARO plate. Citizens Band (CB) operators and novice operators aren't eligible.

It is the first Greek letter organization to establish its Alpha Chapter on Indiana University’s campus. The fraternity has over 250,000 members with 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters in nearly every state of the United States, and thirteen international chapters in Nigeria, South Africa, Bermuda, Bahamas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Panama, United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea, Dominican Republic, Abu Dhabi, Canada, and Japan.
