When you change your address on your license or ID through your online Secretary of State account, you will be asked if you would also like to update your vehicle registration address. Otherwise, the address on your license or ID and vehicle registration must be updated separately.
License or ID
To change your address on your license or ID or add a new mailing address online, you will need:
- Your Michigan license or ID number
- The last four digits of your Social Security number
Follow the steps to update your residential and/or mailing address.
If you have a standard license or ID, we will mail you a sticker with your updated address to place on the back of your license or ID. If you have an enhanced credential, we will mail you a new enhanced license or ID with your updated address.
Vehicle
To change your address on your vehicle registration or add a new mailing address online, you will need:
- Your Michigan license or ID number
- The last four digits of your Social Security number
- The license plate number
After correcting your address, download and print your updated vehicle registration paperwork directly from your browser.
Use the designated space on your renewal mailer to update your address on your license/ID or vehicle registration when renewing by mail.
To change your address by mail outside of your renewal period, download and complete the Change of Address request form and return it by mail to:

Change of address form
You can change your address on your license or ID while renewing or replacing your credential at a self-service station. A $3.95 service fee will be charged for each item transacted at a station.
If you have a standard license or ID, we will mail you a sticker with your updated address to place on the back of your license or ID. If you have an enhanced credential, we will mail you a new enhanced license or ID with your updated address.
You cannot change your address on your vehicle registration at a self-service station.
If you aren’t able to update your address online, by mail, or while completing a license or ID transaction at a self-service station, visit a Secretary of State office.

Is there any cost to update my address on my license, ID, or vehicle registration?
There is no cost to change your address.

How do I update my address on my voter registration?
If you are a registered Michigan voter, your voter registration information will be updated automatically when you change your address on your Michigan driver’s license or ID.
If you are updating your address within two weeks of an election, you must visit your local clerk’s office in person if you would like to vote in the election using your new address.

How do I add a mailing address to my license or ID?
While it’s required that your residential address be a verified U.S. Postal Service street address, you can add another address for mail delivery. Update your permanent or temporary mailing address online or by submitting a Change of Address form.
When submitting this information, be sure to select the box designating that it is a new mailing address.

How do I replace a lost or stolen license or ID?
Most driver’s licenses and IDs can be replaced online or at a self-service station. If you have changed your address within the last 10 days or requested a replacement license or ID within the last four weeks, you will need to visit a Secretary of State office to provide proof of identity.
