The Michigan Agriculture and Food Systems Workforce Advancement Initiative seeks to help Michigan food growers, processers and distributors develop the technology- and data-savvy workforce they need to fill critical jobs by providing more job-based, experiential learning opportunities and credentials for MFSWs, through partnerships and collaboration with employers, workers, Career and Technical Education centers, Community Colleges, and other industry recognized training institutions that offer agricultural technology education and training courses.
LEO-AFLS Administrative Manager Hector Arroyo had the opportunity to co-present at the 2022 Michigan Works! Conference on the topic Understanding Career Pathway Opportunities in the Food and Agriculture Industry, which highlighted the Michigan Agriculture and Food Systems Workforce Advancement Initiative (MAFSWAI), a project funded by the USDA.
On February 9, 2023, The Office of Foreign Labor Certification published an update to the allowable charges for H-2A agricultural workers' meals and for the H-2A and H-2B travel subsistence reimbursement, including lodging.
