MiUI Minute: Issue 27
April 03, 2026
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI is being launched in two parts, with Tax functions now live, and Benefits functions scheduled to be available this summer.
This issue of the MiUI Minute is the second of three issues about Quarterly Wage Reporting in MiUI. In this issue, we’re providing information about the filing methods available for submitting wage report files in MiUI and sharing sign-up details for employer/TPA seminars on Wage Reporting/Payments in MiUI.
Wage Report Filing Methods
All past due and future quarterly wage reports must be submitted in MiUI. The first quarterly wage report for 2026 is due Monday, April 27.
There are various ways to submit quarterly wage reports in MiUI, including:
- File Upload
- As a reminder, when filing quarterly wage reports using the file upload method, only the following four file formats are accepted: MiUI Delimited, ICESA, EFW2, or XML. The MiWAM file format (Form 1028) will no longer be accepted and employers and third-party administrators (TPAs) will need to update existing processes to reflect acceptable file formats. Read the the MiUI Minute Issue 26 to learn more about uploading files and the four file formats in MiUI.
- Manual Entry
- Employers or TPAs can manually enter individual wage records in MiUI using the Manual Entry filing method. This is the recommended method for employers with 10 or fewer employees but can be used for employers with even more. A TPA must be assigned the Submit Employment and Wage Detail role to complete this on behalf of the employer. Start the four-step process by selecting File a Report from the Wage Reporting section of the Employer Homepage. Another way to start the wage submission process is to select Wage Detail Reporting from the left navigation and select Wage Submission from the Wage Detail Reporting drop-down.
- Copy Previous Quarter
- With the Copy Previous Quarter filing method, employers and TPAs are able to use—and if needed, modify—data from a previous quarter. Search for the report to copy by using the drop down to select the appropriate quarter. Employee records can be added, edited, or deleted. Review the Quarterly Calculations section for accuracy, then certify and submit the report.
- No Employment and No Wage Report
- Quarterly Wage Reports must be filed even if an employer does not have any employees and/or wages to report. TPAs with the Submit Employment and Wage Detail role can perform this action on behalf of the employer by accessing the employer account, or from their own TPA Homepage by selecting the File Bulk Report button. For more details on submitting a No Employment and No Wage Report, refer to the Employer Reference Document.
A Note on Wage Report Modifications
MiUI does not allow Quarterly Wage Reports to be edited after submission. However, reports can be amended for up to three years to receive a credit and six years if additional tax is due. The employer must submit the corrections as wage adjustments.
Quarterly Wage Report Learning Resources
For more information on file formats, visit the Quarterly Reports in MiUI page on MiUI University. You can find guides that will walk through the file format requirements and wage report submission process. Also available are a wage report submission job aid, a Quarterly Reports YouTube playlist, and FAQs.
To further understand MiUI and explore its features in-depth, review the MiUI Toolkit available on MiUI University. The toolkit includes step-by-step instructions for file upload, manual entry, and no employment and no wage report.
The next issue of the MiUI Minute will focus on wage report tips, including processing, wage amendments, and submission confirmation/files.
Employer/TPA Seminars are Back for Wage Reporting
Prior to the next Quarterly Wage Report deadline of April 27, UIA is providing employers and TPAs with a valuable resource to prepare: Employer/TPA seminars are back for Wage Reporting/Payments. These online sessions are a great benefit to those who want to learn more and ask questions about how to submit wage reports and make payments in MiUI in time for the upcoming deadline.
If you would like to attend an employer or TPA seminar, sign up for a session online.
- The first seminar for employers/TPAs is Wednesday, April 8.
- Each session will provide an overview of key Wage Reporting/Payment functions in MiUI, live demonstrations, and opportunities to ask questions.
Note on Go Green preferences for Benefit-related notices
During the transition from MiWAM to MiUI, the Go Green/electronic mailing preference for Benefits-related notices was disabled in MiWAM, and some employers may instead receive Benefits mailings by paper.
We are evaluating options to restore electronic delivery during this interim period; if a fix is not feasible, paper delivery will continue until MiUI R2 for Benefits goes live this summer, when Benefits mailing preferences will be available in MiUI.
Tax-related notices sent through MiUI are not affected—employers and TPAs will continue to receive Tax communications based to their chosen delivery preferences.
