Michigan Employer Advisor: May 2026
May 19, 2026
Important: Confirm your MiUI account is active
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is reminding employers to confirm their MiUI accounts are active. This includes employers who use third-party administrators (TPAs) to conduct unemployment insurance related tasks.
How to know if your account is active
An employer’s MiUI account is considered activated once the employer account initiation process has been completed and the employer has successfully authenticated using a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), Employer Account Number (EAN), and the MiUI Activation Code. If an employer can log into MiUI and access their account information, activation is complete. If the system still prompts for the Activation Code, the account remains inactive.
How to get help
Employers and TPAs can access the Initiate Existing Account Third Party Administrators for step-by-step instructions.
Additional resources are available at Michigan.gov/MiUIUniversity, including learning modules and guides on a variety of topics, such as job aids for activating a TPA user profile and adding a new TPA.
Late penalties, interest waived until May 31
The UIA is providing a one-time waiver of penalty and interest for employers who missed the deadline to file their First Quarter 2026 wage report and make their full quarterly payment.
Employers and TPAs now have until May 31, 2026, to submit their wage report and make full payments to avoid having penalties and interest charged to their unemployment insurance account. The deadline was Monday, April 27, 2026. Click on the button below for waiver FAQs.

Important wage reporting reminders:
- To qualify for the waiver, employers or their designated TPA would need to pay the full payment amount and file their first quarter wage report.
- Visit the Quarterly Reports in MiUI page to access instructional videos and guides.

New federal portal opens for businesses to claim tariff refunds
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has launched a new online portal for businesses to request refunds on import tariffs recently ruled unlawful by the U.S. Supreme Court. The platform, called the Consolidated Administration and Processing of Entries, is available through the CBP resource page.
CBP estimates approximately $166 billion in tariff refunds are owed. Once a claim is submitted and approved, refunds are expected to be processed within 60 to 90 days.
Employers and third-party administrators who paid affected tariffs are encouraged to review the new portal and determine whether they are eligible to file a claim.
