March 27, 2019 – To better serve the public, the Unemployment Insurance Agency will relocate its local unemployment office from 21885 Dunham Rd., in Clinton Twp. to 43015 Hayes Road in Sterling Heights.
“The move to a new location is part of our ongoing efforts to better meet the needs of residents who interact with the unemployment insurance system,” said Stephanie Beckhorn, acting director of the Talent and Economic Development Department of Michigan.
“This new larger location will allow us to service more customers and expand our reach to unemployed workers in the metro Detroit area,” Beckhorn added. “The new location also increases the convenience in its proximity to the reemployment services offered by our Michigan Works! partners.”
“We here at Michigan Works! are proud to work with our partners at the Unemployment Insurance Agency who work very hard to assist our customers with the filing of their claims and the resolution of their concerns. We applaud this effort to provide better access to UIA services for the people of Southeastern Michigan,” said Bob Apczynski of the Macomb/St. Clair Workforce Development Board, Inc.
Local Unemployment Insurance office staff assist customers with unemployment benefits while Michigan Works! provides services to help unemployed workers transition to new jobs.
The Sterling Heights unemployment office is one of 13 local offices around the state that provides in-person assistance to customers with unemployment insurance claims. Local offices also provide access to computers for customers to file their claim or access their online accounts. The office is open Mondays 7 AM - 5 PM, Tuesdays 8 AM - 6 PM Wed - Thurs 8 AM- 5PM.
Customers may also file claims, submit questions, and check the status of their unemployment accounts online 24 hours a day through the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM).
