Get Ready for MiUI: Five things to know about the new unemployment system
October 29, 2026
Downtime Period next week to transition to the new, modern platform launching Nov. 9
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) will launch MiUI, a modern and mobile-friendly online platform for unemployment on Monday, Nov. 9. MiUI brings clearer navigation, plain‑language forms, increased guidance, and weekly payments, offering a streamlined experience for workers and employers.
MiUI replaces Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM) and aligns all unemployment functions on one modern system.
“MiUI delivers the modern, user‑friendly experience that Michigan workers and employers deserve,” said UIA Director Jason Palmer. “With a platform that’s easier to navigate, access, and understand, MiUI will make managing unemployment benefits less complicated. We encourage everyone to take a moment now to get ready for MiUI so they can benefit from these improvements as soon as the system goes live.”
As Michigan prepares for this major modernization, here are five key things users should know:
1. Weekly certification and weekly benefit payments are coming
With MiUI’s launch, workers with an unemployment claim will begin a new schedule where they certify each week. They will also receive benefit payments weekly. Previously, both certifications and payments were on biweekly schedules. Workers will continue to be required to report at least three unique work searches per week as part of their certification.
The change to weekly certification and payments means unemployed workers will get access to their benefits sooner to cover expenses while they look for work.
2. MARVIN and phone claim filing will be discontinued
With MiUI’s expanded online and mobile access, filing a claim and certifying for benefits will be easier and more available than ever. As a result, several phone-based services will be discontinued, including the Michigan Automated Response Voice Interactive Network (MARVIN) for certification and calling UIA to file a new claim by phone.
UIA will continue to offer many support resources, such as walk-in visits to Local Offices, in-person or online appointments, self-serve kiosks, language assistance, and customer service phone staff who can help with issues that need additional attention.
3. MiUI will make it easier to manage your claim
MiUI will transform the way workers engage with unemployment. The user-friendly platform was designed with modern customers in mind and features:
- Mobile-friendly access from any device.
- Plain language forms and correspondence for increased clarity and understanding.
- Improved navigation and intuitive design.
- Anti-fraud protections that build on current UIA safeguards.
- Easy log-in with your State of Michigan MiLogin account.
These enhancements are designed to give users more control, reduce errors, and make routine tasks faster and easier.
4. Downtime Period begins Nov. 2
To prepare for the transition, there will be a system Downtime Period beginning at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, and lasting through 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9:
- MiWAM and MARVIN will go permanently offline at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 2.
- During Downtime, users will not be able to access any online systems.
- All UIA Local Offices will be closed and phone lines will be unavailable.
- Information, forms, and resources will remain available at Michigan.gov/UIA.
- Mail and faxes will continue to be received.
Workers should certify for benefits before 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, regardless of their assigned day or time that week to ensure timely payment. Workers who miss a certification can certify for past weeks, including the week of Downtime, after MiUI launches.
The Downtime Period will end with the launch of MiUI at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 9.
5. You can get ready now with MiUI University
To help prepare for MiUI, UIA encourages unemployed workers, employers, and third-party administrators to explore MiUI University, the primary online information hub for the new system with step-by-step instructions for logging in, completing certifications, managing claims, and more.
Users are strongly encouraged to become familiar with MiUI before the transition to ensure they are ready to file and certify in the new system and avoid delays in benefit payments.
MiUI is a major step in modernizing UIA and bringing Michigan a faster, clearer, and more accessible unemployment system. By replacing outdated technology with a streamlined, mobile‑friendly platform, the agency is making it easier for workers to manage their claims and get the support they need as they pursue their next job.
