SOS offices in Michigan closed Jan. 31 with weather closure of state government
Residents encouraged to use online services at ExpressSOS.com
All Secretary of State offices in Michigan will remain closed Thursday, Jan. 31, because of the state government closure for severe winter weather conditions.
In addition, customers are advised to follow news reports, check Michigan.gov or visit the Secretary of State’s Branch Office Locator before driving to an office Friday, Feb 1.
All appointments or hearings scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 31, will be adjourned. People who have appointments or hearings Friday, Feb. 1, should check before heading out. If state offices are closed at the time of the appointment, the hearing will be adjourned to another day.
Customers who have MI-TIME Line appointments for Thursday, Jan. 31, will need to reschedule for a different day at Michigan.gov/MiTimeLine.
Most people renewing license plates, driver’s licenses and ID cards can do business online at ExpressSOS.com or by mail. Easy-to-follow instructions can be found with the renewal notice. Additional services can be done online, as well.
The Secretary of State mails notices to motorists 45 days before their driver’s license or license plates expire to give them ample time to renew. Licenses and plates that expire on a day when state offices are closed, such as a holiday, weekend or weather emergency, can be renewed the following day without penalty.
With the exception of holidays, offices are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Smaller offices may close for the lunch hour. On Wednesday, most offices are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with those in city centers open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PLUS offices and SUPER!Centers are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. SUPER!Centers also provide Saturday hours from 9 a.m. to noon.
