Michigan Secretary of State offices to extend hours to assist customers after weather closures
SUPER!Centers to stay open later Saturday;
all offices will be open later Monday, Tuesday
Michigan Secretary of State offices will be open for normal hours Friday, Feb. 1, and will extend hours over the following several days to assist customers after the state government closure for severe winter weather conditions.
The seven SUPER!Centers – located in Clinton Township, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Livonia and Pontiac – will stay open three hours later than normal (until 3 p.m.) Saturday, Feb. 2. All branch offices will stay open two hours later (until 7 p.m.) Monday, Feb. 4, and Tuesday, Feb. 5. The Department of State Information Center at (888) SOS-MICH / 888-767-6424 also will stay open during those extended hours Monday, Feb. 4, and Tuesday, Feb. 5.
Additional staff also will be scheduled during all hours Saturday, Feb. 2; Monday, Feb. 4; and Tuesday, Feb. 5, to assist customers.
Late fees will be waived for the days that state government was closed.
Secretary of State offices were closed Wednesday, Jan. 30; Thursday, Jan. 31; and most of Monday, Jan. 28, because of the weather-related state government closure.
Most people renewing license plates, driver’s licenses and ID cards can do business online at ExpressSOS.com or by mail. Easy-to-follow instructions can be found with the renewal notice. Additional services can be done online, as well.
The Secretary of State mails notices to motorists 45 days before their driver’s license or license plates expire to give them ample time to renew.
With the exception of holidays, offices normally are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Smaller offices may close for the lunch hour. On Wednesday, most offices are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with those in city centers open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PLUS offices and SUPER!Centers are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. SUPER!Centers also provide Saturday hours from 9 a.m. to noon.
