Secretary of State office in Lapeer to close for remodeling March 4 to 8

The Lapeer County PLUS Secretary of State office will close for five days for a remodeling project, and customers are encouraged to complete their transactions online at ExpressSOS.com or at an alternative branch office.

The office at 301 W. Genesee St. in Lapeer will be closed beginning Monday, March 4, and will resume normal service at 9 a.m. Monday, March 11.

Customers and staff will benefit from renovations including new data lines to speed transactions, new carpet and a newly painted lobby. Electrical updates also will be done as part of the project.

As a result of the department’s vehicle records computer upgrade earlier this month, customers can now order or replace most types of license plates online at ExpressSOS.com. They also can renew their driver’s license and the registration for their vehicles, motorcycles, snowmobiles or boats, print their receipt and drive legally until they get their card or sticker in the mail. Additionally, customers may order a duplicate registration or title, change their address and register to be an organ donor at the website.

Residents who need Secretary of State services during the remodeling period may visit the next closest offices:

  • Davison, 300 N. Main St.
  • Flint Area Super Center, 5512 Fenton Road, Suite G, Flint
  • North Oakland County PLUS, 7090 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston
  • Romeo, 71130 Van Dyke Road, Bruce Township

All four offices are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The Davison and Romeo offices are open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Super Centers and PLUS offices are open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Super Centers are also open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
