Department of State takes action against unregistered auto repair shop in Ferndale
FERNDALE – The Michigan Department of State has issued a temporary cease and desist order against a Ferndale auto repair shop for operating without a facility registration in violation of the law.
Ace Auto Care LLC, 503 E. Eight Mile Road, owned by Antesar Zindai, was issued the order June 25 to halt all operations.
On May 8 and June 7, a regulation agent observed vehicles being worked on and discovered invoices indicating repairs were being performed on vehicles. The repair facility is unregistered. Although Zindai had begun the process to register Ace Auto Care as a licensed repair facility, the application was put on hold when it was determined that the location for the shop is also registered as a place of business for Amazin Auto Repair. In Michigan, only one repair facility can occupy a single location unless there is a clear and concise separation of businesses.
The department suspended Amazin Auto Repair, owned by Arafat Anwar Hmeidan, on Jan. 25. Hmeidan and some employees from Amazin Auto Repair continued working at the facility as Ace Auto Care. A hearing decision June 28 determined that Amazin Auto Repair’s registration will be revoked as of July 15. Ace Auto Care has been ordered closed until Amazin’s registration revocation is final and the paperwork for Ace Auto Care is reviewed and approved.
Temporary cease-and-desist orders prohibit the owners or anyone else from performing any further automotive repairs until the facilities comply with state law. Under state law, any person who knowingly provides automotive repair services without a registration or certificate is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail or a fine of up to $1,000, or both.
Consumers who have a complaint against Ace Auto Care are encouraged to call the Office of Investigative Services automotive complaint line at 517-335-1410.
