GROSSE POINTE FARMS – Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson took part in a veterans recognition ceremony today organized by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) to celebrate the service and sacrifice of veterans.
Benson joined Maj. Gen. Paul Rogers, adjutant general of Michigan; Zaneta Adams, director of the MVAA; and other officials at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. As part of the event, Benson placed a recognition pin on Raymond Mabarak, a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Secretary Benson joined Maj. Gen. Paul Rogers, Michigan’s Adjutant General, in thanking numerous
veterans for their service to our nation, including Raymond Mabarak, who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
In her remarks, Benson reaffirmed her commitment to supporting veterans and recognizing their service. She noted that her Department of State team has worked with legislators from both sides of the aisle on bills that would eliminate the extra charge on veteran license plates and create a Blue Star Families plate and Women Veterans plate.
“I’ve made it a priority to make sure we’re effectively serving our veterans,” Benson said. “I’m grateful the Legislature is now working to waive the fee for veteran license plates.”
In another area, the Motor Vehicle Network in every branch office is being used to honor veterans, including men and women who work at the Department of State.
As the spouse of a military veteran, Benson said she is determined to protect the voting rights of active military members. New options have been added to the department’s Michigan.gov/MilitaryVoting website and she encouraged members of the military community to visit, ask questions and leave feedback.
