Portage Secretary of State office to close for remodeling until Jan. 23

PORTAGE – The Secretary of State office in Portage will be closed next week for a remodeling project, but most residents can go online to Michigan.gov/SOS instead for their transactions.

The office at 603 Romence Rd. will not open on Tuesday, Jan. 17 following the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday closure on Monday and will resume normal service at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23.

Carpet will be replaced throughout the office.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s administration has doubled the number of services available online and now most transactions can be done from computer, tablet or mobile phone.

Self-service stations are available for instant registration, driver’s license and ID renewals, as well as some other transactions. There are machines located in the Meijer stores at 8850 Shaver Rd. and 5121 S. Westnedge Ave. in Portage.

Residents who need to come into an office for Secretary of State services during the remodeling period may schedule their visit at the next closest offices at Michigan.gov/SOS or by calling 888-767-6424. The nearest offices are located at 3298 Stadium Dr. in Kalamazoo and 5420 Beckley Rd. in Battle Creek. Both offices are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Wednesdays, when the hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
