May 04, 2026
TEMPERANCE, Mich. – The Temperance Secretary of State office will close for one week as it moves back to its original remodeled location, but residents can go online to Michigan.gov/SOS instead for most of their transactions.
The temporary office located one building to the west will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 8 and normal service will resume at 7200 Lewis Ave. at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 18.
The remodeling project involved redesigning the office layout and adding a telecom room, first aid room, public restroom, and janitorial closet.
During the weeklong closure, residents will have other options to complete their transactions. Many can be completed online at Michigan.gov/SOS. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s administration has doubled the number of services available online and now most transactions can be done from computer, tablet, or mobile phone.
Self-service stations provide instant license plate, driver’s license and ID renewals, as well as some other transactions, and offer nine language options. The nearest self-service station is located in the Kroger store at 3462 W. Sterns Rd. in Lambertville.
Residents who need to come into an office for Secretary of State services during the closure may schedule a visit to the closest alternative office at Michigan.gov/SOS or by calling 888-767-6424. The nearest offices are located at 1107 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe and 1040 S. Winter St. in Adrian. The offices are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
