Secretary of State downtown Flint office closed May 8-12 during move to new location

Flint, Mich. – The Secretary of State office at 408 S. Saginaw St. in Flint will permanently close at 5 p.m. Friday, May 5, as it moves to a new location.

The office is moving to 310 E. Third St. in Flint and will open for business at 9 a.m. Monday, May 15. The new building, less than a mile from the old location, offers more open lobby space, improved counters, public restrooms, new carpet and free parking in the street and at an adjacent lot. The office will also continue to offer a self-service station.

During the weeklong closure, residents are encouraged to complete their transactions online at Michigan.gov/SOS. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s administration has doubled the number of services available online and now most transactions can be done from computer, tablet or mobile phone.

Most license plate types can be ordered online, and registrations for vehicles, motorcycles, snowmobiles or watercraft may be renewed and printed, allowing motorists to drive legally until they get their license or plate and tab in the mail. Additionally, residents may order a duplicate registration or title, change their address and register to be an organ donor on the website.

Self-service stations are also available for instant registration, driver’s license and ID renewals, as well as some other transactions. There are machines conveniently located in the Meijer store at 2474 W. Hill Road in Flint and the Kroger store at 3838 Richfield Road in Flint.

Residents who need to come into an office for Secretary of State services before the new location opens may schedule their visit at the next closest office at Michigan.gov/SOS or by calling 1-888-767-6424. The nearest office is located at 5512 Fenton Road and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
