Don't miss Science on Tap: Timber Talk, Aug. 28 at Saugatuck Brewing Co. in Douglas

Curious about timber use in buildings and boats? Join an interactive discussion on how mass timber – large, engineered wood construction materials – is revolutionizing our ability to build big buildings more sustainably, efficiently and beautifully, and how some trees, such as black locust, are key to creating strong, maintenance-free marine decking.

Learn about it 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the Barrel Room of Saugatuck Brewing Co., 2948 Blue Star Highway, in Douglas.

  • Featured speakers are Sandra Lupien, director of MassTimber@MSU (the MSU STEM Teaching and Learning Facility's interior is pictured above), and Dana Lowell, CEO of Lilypad Labs, creator of Lilypad solar-powered boats.
  • Guests are invited to visit the SBC Tap Room before and after the discussion. Games, prizes and more!

Through a Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Saugatuck Brewing Co. partnership, all sales of SBC's Rainbow Rodeo IPA help generate funds for habitat restoration.
