DNR seeks input on Petoskey State Park planning via virtual public meeting and online survey

Join the Michigan Department of Natural Resources at a virtual public meeting 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, to learn about and share feedback on a new draft general management plan for Petoskey State Park in Emmet County.

At the meeting, DNR staff will present an overview of the draft plan, proposed park improvements and the planning process, followed by an opportunity for people to ask questions and provide comment. Advance registration is required.

For those unable to attend, the meeting will be recorded and posted online approximately one week after the event. An interactive public input survey also is available through Oct. 1 for people to provide feedback.

The DNR uses general management plans to define long-range planning and management strategies that protect the resources of state parks while addressing recreation and education needs and opportunities.

"To ensure that park planning aligns with the needs of our visitors, stakeholders and local community, we conducted an earlier online survey to gather public input," said Debbie Jensen, park management plan administrator with the DNR Parks and Recreation Division. "The feedback combined with the expertise of our park staff, helped shaped the draft plan we're excited to share."

Petoskey State Park, situated on Little Traverse Bay, is home to a mile of beautiful beach along Lake Michigan, towering dunes and scenic views. The park offers two modern campgrounds, mini cabins, a group-use campground, a designated buoyed swim beach, a picnic area, trails and more. Its 2.5 miles of trails include a popular stairway to the top of Old Baldy Dune, and the park provides easy access to the North Country National Scenic Trail, North Western State Trail and Little Traverse Wheelway.
