Allowable e-bike operation expands under DNR land use order change

Allowable use of Class 1 electric bicycles on state-managed, nonmotorized bicycle trails/pathways has expanded following approval of a proposed Michigan Department of Natural Resources land use order. This decision opens DNR trails to be even more inclusive, providing opportunities to those unable to bike without assistance who want to continue riding and enjoying the outdoors.

Mentorship program provides life-changing outdoor experiences

The DNR Summer Youth Employment Program is the result of ongoing support in the state budget presented to the Michigan Legislature by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The initiative, operating since 2012, provides summer employment, job skills training and potential career opportunities at the Michigan DNR. It also opens up new outdoor recreation experiences for young people in the four communities where it operates: Detroit, Saginaw, Flint and Pontiac.
