Port Crescent State Park - Phase 1 GMP proposed changes

A park's general management plan defines a long-range (10- to 20-year) planning and management strategy to protect and preserve the site’s natural and cultural resources and provide access to land- and water-based public recreation and educational opportunities.

Proposed change to Phase 1 General Management Plan

The DNR proposes an amendment to the park’s Phase 1 General Management Plan approved in 2011. The proposed amendment involves expanding the administrative services zone (formerly the visitor services zone) southward by approximately 350 feet to accommodate the construction of a new wastewater lagoon. Archaeological surveys have been conducted, and no significant cultural resources have been identified within the project area.

The public comment period for the park's Phase 1 General Management Plan amendment has concluded. Based on public feedback, the DNR will proceed with the zoning change.

Recent updates

Thanks to $4.95 million in federal relief funding from Gov. Whitmer's Building Michigan Together Plan, Port Crescent State Park has undergone extensive improvements this year, including upgrades to roads , water and sewer lines, campground roads electrical and the sanitation station. To accomplish these improvements, campsites were temporarily closed during the 2024 season. The park is scheduled to reopen to camping June 27, 2025, subject to all work being completed.
