Participants should have completed a beginner-level beekeeping course or have hands-on experience working with bees. A foundational understanding of beekeeping terminology and practices is expected, as this course will not cover introductory material.

This class focuses on bee health and effective summer hive management. Participants will deepen their understanding of honeybee anatomy and biology to better support their colonies and learn advanced practices for maintaining healthy bees throughout the active season. The class will cover common disorders, pests and parasites, with an emphasis on Integrated Pest Management strategies to keep hives thriving. Special attention will be given to monitoring and treating varroa mites, a major threat to bee health. Attendees will also learn how to inspect hives, assess overall colony health and address issues related to queen performance, including re-queening techniques and available options.

To participate in hands-on demonstrations, please bring a beekeeping suit or veil. We will be working open hives. Do not bring gloves or tools; they will be provided.

Cost for the class is $40.
