PSI Examinations

The State of Michigan has contracted with PSI Services LLC (PSI) to conduct the Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) examination program. PSI provides this examination through a network of computer examination centers in Michigan.

 

Upon approval of licensure eligibility, PSI will be sent the approval information within 10 business days and will notify the authorized candidate to pay for and schedule the required licensure examination with PSI.

  • Candidates must pass the examination within one year of the eligibility date. If you do not pass, you must re-apply with the Department.
  • If you fail an examination, you may be able to retest as many times as possible within that one year of eligibility.
  • Those testing for electrical master or journeymen:
  • If an applicant fails 2 times within a period of 2 years, an applicant is ineligible to sit for another examination for at least 1 year from the date of      failure for the 2nd examination.
  • Those testing for elevator journeyperson:
  • An applicant who fails to attain a minimum passing grade is not eligible for reexamination for 60 days after the examination, except as otherwise required by the Act or by special permission of the board.

 

PSI is responsible for scheduling and proctoring examinations. All exams are created by the professional staff of BCC and are based on the appropriate code, law and rules governing the trade.

 You must contact PSI to schedule, reschedule, or cancel an examination. If you cannot schedule the examination online, you must call PSI at 855-579-4635. BCC staff is unable to assist with scheduling.

 When the application for examination is approved, PSI will provide a customer information bulletin, which outlines suggested study materials. It also provides a detailed list of what materials may be brought to the exam, if any. EXAM ACCOMMODATIONS (ADA)

ALTERNATIVE TEST DELIVERY ARRANGEMENTS

The following options are available to all candidates seeking assistance for an additional fee.

 

Additional Time While Taking the Examination

 

Candidates may request to take the examination with extra time. The candidate will be given time & ½ and there will be an additional fee of $50 per examination.

 

Request for Reader along with Additional Time

 

Candidates may request to have the examination read to them in English with extra time & ½ for an additional fee of $50 per examination. PSI will provide the reader.

Any costs associated with the alternative test delivery arrangements must be paid by the candidate.
