Plan Review
The Plan Review Division performs plan reviews of all new construction, additions or renovations of state regulated facilities. This includes architectural fire safety reviews along with shop drawing reviews of fire alarm, sprinkler systems and hood suppression systems. The Plan Review Division reviews the plans in accordance with the requirements of the State Fire Safety Rules promulgated by the State Fire Safety Board under the provisions of the State Fire Prevention Code, Public Act 207 of 1941 as amended. The plan review personnel often serve as the first contact with the Bureau. They answer many technical questions when the professional designer, fire alarm firm or fire suppression firm are seeking information. The Plan Review Division also provides formal training for the fire service and constituents in the interpretation of the fire safety rules. Another aspect of the Plan Review Division is the administration of the Act 144 Certification program. Fire alarm and fire suppression firms that want to do work in BFS regulated facilities are required to be Act 144 Certified. Certification of personnel, renewal fees and applications are all part of the process. Plan reviews for consumer fireworks retail sales facilities such as tents and stores are also completed by the Plan Review Division.
Starting October 1, 2023,
the Bureau of Fire Services will not accept paper plans.
