Trivia Games at Liquor Licensed Businesses

Trivia Games At Liquor Licensed Businesses

The Michigan Liquor Control Code does not prohibit a licensee from hosting trivia games on the licensed premises as long as the on-premises retailer or a manufacturer with a tasting room permit or license has also been issued an Entertainment Permit.

Trivia games are games of skill.  The players must correctly answer questions to win.  These types of games are allowed under an Entertainment Permit.  If the licensee plans to award more than $250 in prizes per day for a trivia contest, then the licensee must first apply for and be approved by the Commission for permission to award prizes in excess of $250.  A licensee may apply for permission to award prizes over $250 by completing and submitting the Application for Prizes or Giveaways in Excess of $250.00 (LCC-207) form.  Alcohol may never be given away or used as a prize.

Games of chance over which the player has little or no influence on the outcome of the game are considered gambling and are not allowed to be played on the licensed premises.
