Secretary Benson: Don't miss June 1 deadline to apply for the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission
More than 6,200 notarized applications have been processed by the Michigan Department of State (MDOS) for the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, and with only a few days left before the June 1 deadline, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson encouraged any remaining Michiganders with interest to apply and make a plan to have their application notarized prior to the deadline on Monday.
“The incredible number of applications we’ve received continues to reinforce how excited the people of Michigan are to be part of our state’s history,” said Secretary Benson. “I look forward to seeing this enthusiasm carry over into the next phase of the selection process.”
To complete an application, Michiganders should visit RedistrictingMichigan.org immediately. Applicants are encouraged to visit Michigan.gov/FreeNotary to view a list of remote and in-person notary options. The site also includes the most recent profile of processed applications.
Once the application window closes, MDOS will process the final applications before the random selection of 200 semi-finalists to be conducted by Rehmann LLC, an independent accounting firm. The applications of the semi-finalists will be posted online and delivered to legislative leaders by the end of June, who may strike up to 20 applications per the Michigan Constitution. The final selection for commissioners will be held in August.
