Secretary Benson launches "MI Vote Honors A Veteran," invites voters to participate
As we celebrate our nation this 4th of July weekend, ahead of the Aug. 4 state primary and Nov. 3 presidential election, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is inviting voters to honor a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, past or present, by dedicating their ballot to them.
“We owe our nation’s veterans, military service members and their families a tremendous debt of gratitude for all they have done and continue to do every day to serve and protect our rights and freedoms,” said Secretary Benson. “I invite you to honor the veterans and service members in your life by exercising your right to vote and dedicating your vote to them in recognition of their lifetime of service and sacrifice.”
Voters are encouraged to post their tributes to social media using the hashtag #MIVoteHonorsAVeteran and, at the same time, encourage others to vote in the next election.
They can also tag the Secretary of State accounts @MichSoS on Twitter and @michigansos on Facebook and Instagram. Along with your tribute message, please tell about your veteran: their name, what branch they served, their rank and years of service.
A webpage has been created for the program at Michigan.gov/MIVoteHonorsAVeteran, where updates will be posted as the program evolves.
