October 08, 2024
Secretary of State mobile office will help fans get registered tonight at MSU’s Breslin Center as Pistons take on Phoenix Suns in preseason
LANSING, Mich. – Tonight, Oct. 8, the Michigan Department of State and the Detroit Pistons kick off their fifth NBA season as partners in the effort to get every eligible Michigan citizen registered to vote and to the polls in the upcoming General Election. The Secretary of State mobile office will be at Michigan State University’s Breslin Center for the Pistons' 7 p.m. preseason game against the Phoenix Suns.
“We are very proud of our ongoing partnership with the Detroit Pistons. Together, we work to help Michigan citizens get registered to vote and we share nonpartisan information voters need to cast their ballot in this year’s election,” Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said. “I’m grateful to this team for its extraordinary civic engagement and service to its fans, the City of Detroit, and communities throughout the state.”
The Pistons will display QR codes on the big screens during games leading up to Election Day this Nov. 5, linking fans to information on voter registration, absentee voting, in-person early voting, and voting on Election Day. Several players and coaches will be featured in nonpartisan voter public service announcements to continue to engage with fans. As in years past, the Pistons Performance Center training facility will serve as a ballot receiving board for the City of Detroit clerk’s office. Fans can visit Michigan.gov/Pistons for complete information on voter registration.
The Secretary of State mobile office has been on site for several of the team’s community events this year, including the Pistons Youth Council Family Fun Day and the Health is Wealth Eastern Market Event.
