December 27, 2024
Most transactions can be done at Michigan.gov/SOS
FREMONT, Mich. – The Secretary of State office at 7159 W. 48th St. in Fremont will be closed for two weeks during a remodeling project, but most residents can go online to Michigan.gov/SOS instead for their transactions.
The office will close at 5 p.m. Jan. 3 and will resume normal service at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 after the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday closure that Monday.
The project includes reconstruction of the counters at the office, improvements to the camera and testing areas, and data and electrical updates.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s administration has doubled the number of services available online and now most transactions can be done from computer, tablet, or mobile phone.
Self-service stations provide instant registration, driver’s license and ID renewals, as well as some other transactions, and offer nine language options, including Spanish. The nearest self-service stations are located in Meijer stores at 4665 S. Green Ave. in Fremont and 1800 Holton Rd. in North Muskegon.
Residents who need to come into an office for Secretary of State services during the remodeling period may schedule a visit to the closest alternative office at Michigan.gov/SOS or by calling 888-767-6424.
The nearest offices are located at 1485 E. Apple Ave. in Muskegon and 3740 Polk Rd. in Hart. Both offices are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Wednesdays, when the hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
