Temperance Secretary of State office to close Jan. 20-23 for move to temporary location

Most transactions can be done at Michigan.gov/SOS

TEMPERANCE, Mich. – The Temperance Secretary of State office will close for several days this month as it moves to a temporary location in the same plaza while its current building is remodeled.

The closure will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20, after the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Normal service will resume at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, in the temporary office located at 7200 Lewis Avenue, Suite B6, which is one building to the west.

The project involves redesigning the office layout and adding a telecom room, first aid room, public restroom, and janitorial closet. The team expects to complete the project in July.

During the weeklong closure, residents will have other options to complete their transactions. Many can be completed online at Michigan.gov/SOS. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s administration has doubled the number of services available online and now most transactions can be done from computer, tablet, or mobile phone.

Self-service stations provide instant license plate, driver’s license and ID renewals, as well as some other transactions, and offer nine language options. The self-service station in the Temperance branch office is scheduled to be moved on Tuesday, Jan. 20 to its new location in the Kroger store at 3462 W. Stearns Rd. in Lambertville. The next nearest self-service station is located in the Kroger store at 850 S. Monroe St. in Monroe.

Residents who need to come into an office for Secretary of State services during the remodeling period may schedule a visit to the closest alternative office at Michigan.gov/SOS or by calling 888-767-6424. The nearest offices are located at 1107 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe and 1040 S. Winter St. in Adrian. The offices are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
