August 18, 2026
Most transactions can be done at mi.gov/sos
NILES, Mich. – The Secretary of State office at 110 E. Main St. in Niles will be closed for three weeks because of a remodeling project, but residents can go online instead for most of their transactions.
The office will be closed Monday, Aug. 24, and will resume normal service at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
The remodeling project includes carpet replacement, fresh paint, and a new counter layout with dividers and clear partitions.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s administration has doubled the number of services available online and now most transactions can be done from computer, tablet, or mobile phone.
Self-service stations provide instant license plate, driver’s license and ID renewals, as well as some other transactions, and offer nine language options. The nearest self-service stations are located in the Martin’s Super Market store at 720 S. 11th St. in Niles and in the Meijer store at 1920 Pipestone Rd. in Benton Harbor.
