License/Registration Renewals

Boiler Inspector

• You must renew every year by 12/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.
• You may renew using Express Pay, which works without logging in to Accela or by logging into your Accela account. Express Payment Renewal Instructions
• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to log in and update your address before renewing. You may need to link your license to your account, if you haven’t done so already. Linking a License to Your Account
• It is $100.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay a $100.00 late fee after 60 days.
• For Low Pressure/High Pressure license holders- It is $80.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay a $80.00 late fee after 60 days.
• If your Inspector license is expired more than 3 years, you will need to re-apply.
• You are not required to take a code update course to renew.

• If your Operator license is expired more than 3 years, you will need to re-apply.
• You are not required to take a code update course to renew.

• You may not continue working as a Code Official without an active (non-expired registration).

• The fee to renew your code official license is $75.00 per category. Inspection and plan review count as two separate categories. 
• If you do not renew on time, you will have to pay $100 late fee after 60 days.

Electrical Apprentice

• You must renew your registration every year by 8/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.
• You must log into your Accela account and provide the Master/Contractor license numbers for your employer. You cannot use Express Pay. Electrical Apprentice Renewal Instructions
• If you haven’t done so already, you will need to link your apprentice registration to your Accela account. Linking a License to Your Account
• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to update your address before renewing.
• You also need to have completed or be currently enrolled in and attending an apprenticeship program.
• The fee to renew your apprentice registration is $15.00.
• If you do not renew it on time, you will have to pay $100 late fee.
• Even if you haven’t renewed your apprentice registration in a long time, you will still renew instead of applying for a new registration.
• You should not be on a job site if your apprentice registration expires, because that is against the law.
• You do not have to take a code update course to renew your apprentice registration.

Electrical Journeyman

• You must renew every year by 12/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days before the expiration date.

• You are not allowed to be on the job site without an active license. Allowing your license to expire may lead to citations and/or enforcement action.
• You are only required to take a code update course within one year of new code being adopted. This does not happen every year.
• If you do need to take a code update course, you do not need to submit proof you completed your course unless you are audited. Please keep a copy for your records.

Electrical/Fire Alarm /Sign Specialty Contractor

• You must renew every three (3) years by 12/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.
• You may renew using Express Pay, which works without logging in to Accela or by logging into your Accela account. Express Payment Renewal Instructions
• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to log in and update your address before renewing. You may need to link your license to your account first, if you haven’t already.
• You also need to have a qualifying Master Electrician/Fire Alarm Specialty Technician or Sign Specialist. If the qualifying license lapses, your contractor license will be placed on hold until they renew, and you notify our office.
• It is $300 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you must pay a $50.00 late fee.
• If you do not renew your contractor license before it expires, it may impact your ability to pull permits.
• You are not required to do a code update to renew your contractor license.

Fire Alarm Specialty Apprentice Technician

• You must renew your registration every year by 8/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.
• You must log into your Accela account and provide the Fire Alarm Specialty Technician/Fire Alarm Contractor license numbers for your employer. You cannot use Express Pay. Electrical Apprentice Renewal Instructions

• You also need to have completed or be currently enrolled in an RTI (related technical instruction) program.
• The fee to renew your apprentice registration is $15.00.
• If you do not renew it on time, you will have to pay $100 late fee.
• Even if you haven’t renewed your apprentice registration in a long time, you will still renew instead of applying for a new registration.
• You should not be on a job site if your apprentice registration expires, because that is against the law.
• You do not have to take a code update course to renew your apprentice registration.

Fire Alarm Specialty Tech

• You must renew every year by 12/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.

•  It is $50.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay a $50.00 late fee.
• Allowing your license to expire may negatively impact your ability to pull permits. You are not allowed to be on the job site without an active license.
• Allowing your license to expire may lead to citations and/or enforcement action. It may also negatively impact the apprentices who work under you when you go to sign for their time.
•  You are only required to take a code update course within one year of new code being adopted. This does not happen every year.
• If you do need to take a code update course, you do not need to submit proof you completed your course unless you are audited. Please keep a copy for your records.

Master Electrician

• Allowing your license to expire may lead to citations and/or enforcement action. It may also negatively impact the apprentices/journeymen who work under you when you go to sign for their time.
• You are only required to take a code update course within one year of new code being adopted. This does not happen every year.

Sign Specialist

• It is $103.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay an additional $20.60 late fee.  

Elevator Journeypersons

•  If you do not renew within 60 days of your license expiration date, you will need to reapply and retest.   
• You must renew yearly. All expiration dates are different, depending on when your original license was issued. You can start renewing your license 90 days before expiration date.

• It is $41.20 to renew your license.

Mechanical Contractor

• You must renew every three (3) years by 8/31. Not all Mechanical Contractor licenses expire in the same year.  You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.

• You may renew using Express Pay, which works without logging in to Accela or by logging into your Accela account. Express Payment Renewal Instruction
• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to log in and update your address before renewing. You may need to link your license to your Accela account if you have not done so already.
• It is $300.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay a $100.00 late fee.
• Allowing your license to expire may negatively impact your ability to pull permits or sign for time for future applicants. It can also lead to citations and/or enforcement action.
• If your mechanical contractor license is expired more than 3 years, you will need to re-apply and re-test.
• You are not required to take code update courses for your mechanical contractor license.

Apprentice Plumber

• You must renew every year by 4/30. You can start renewing your apprentice registration 90 days prior to the expiration date.
• You may renew using Express Pay, which works without logging in to Accela or by logging into your Accela account. Express Payment Renewal Instructions
• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to log in and update your address before renewing. You may need to link your license/registration to your account first, if you haven’t already.
• It is $15.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay a $20.00 late fee.
• Allowing your license to expire negatively impacts your ability to become a licensed journey plumber, as any time without an active apprentice registration DOES NOT count towards your time/hour requirements.
• You are not allowed to be on the job site without an active license.
• You are not required to take code update courses.

Journey Plumber

• You must renew every year by 4/30. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date.
• You may renew using Express Pay, which works without logging in to Accela or by logging into your Accela account. Express Payment Renewal Instructions
•  If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to log in and update your address before renewing. You may need to link your license to your account first, if you haven’t already.
• It is $40.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay a $100.00 late fee.
• Allowing your license to expire may negatively impact your ability to apply for master plumber licensure as the law specifically requires two (2) years IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING application. If your license lapses more than 60 days, your time accrual starts all over again towards becoming a master plumber.
• You are not allowed to be on the job site without an active license.
• You are only required to take a code update course within one year of new code being adopted. This does not happen every year.
• If you do need to take a code update course, you do not need to submit proof you completed your course unless you are audited. Please maintain a copy for your records.

Master Plumber

• If you hold both the plumbing contractor and qualifying plumbing master licenses, you will only need to enter your plumbing contractor license number to renew both (starts with 80).

Builder Company/M&A Company/Branches

• You must renew both the Company license AND qualifying officer license. You cannot operate without a qualifying officer, and your company license will be placed in Section 2405 Suspension if you fail to renew your individual residential builder/M&A license. 
• You must renew every three (3) years by 5/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date. Not all residential builder licenses renew the same year. 
• You cannot use Express Pay to renew. You must log into your Accela.
• If you need to update your address or contact information, you will need to do so before renewing. You may also need to link your license to your account first, if you haven’t already.
• It is $150.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay an additional $20.00 late fee. If you do not renew within 60 days of your license expiration date, the late fee increases to $35.00. 
• Company license holders are not required to take continuing education courses for this specific license, please see requirements under other license types you may hold.

Individual Residential Builder/Maintenance & Alteration Contractor

• If you are the qualifying officer for a builder company or M&A company, you must maintain your individual license AS WELL AS any company licenses. You cannot operate without a qualifying officer, and your company license will be placed in Section 2405 Suspension if you fail to renew your individual residential builder/M&A license.
• You must renew every three (3) years by 5/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date. Not all residential builder licenses renew the same year. 
• You may renew using Express Pay, which works without logging in to Accela or by logging into your Accela account. Express Payment Renewal Instructions

• It is $150.00 to renew your license. If you do not renew before your license expires, you have to pay an additional $20.00 late fee. If you do not renew within 60 days of your license expiration date, the late fee increases to $35.00. 
• If this is your first or second renewal cycle, you are required to complete 21 hours of continuing education. If this is your third or higher renewal cycle, you are required to complete 3 hours of continuing education.
• You do not need to submit proof you completed your course unless you are audited. Please maintain a copy for your records.

Salespersons

• You cannot renew your license if your salesperson license is not linked to an employer. Your employer will need to complete and send in the necessary form for your license to be associated with theirs first.
• You must renew every three (3) years by 5/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date. Not all residential builder licenses renew the same year.
