Southeast Michigan Registered Nurse Surrenders License for Tampering, Stealing Controlled Substances
November 04, 2022
The Michigan Board of Nursing’s Disciplinary Subcommittee accepted the surrender of the nursing license of Nancy M. Berner, RN, CRNA at its November 3, 2022 meeting.
Ms. Berner was the subject of an administrative complaint and order of summary suspension issued by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
LARA’s complaint alleged that Ms. Berner diverted injectable controlled substances, such as fentanyl, hydromorphone, and midazolam while working at an eye surgery center in Sterling Heights. LARA’s complaint also alleged that Ms. Berner concealed her thefts by substituting a clear liquid for the stolen medication and then placing the re-filled vials back into stock.
The investigation and legal pleadings were completed by LARA’s Pharmacy and Drug Monitoring Section, which focuses on identifying, investigating, and pursuing appropriate disciplinary actions against health professionals who divert controlled substances.
