LARA Summarily Suspends a Group Child Care Home License in Hillsdale County

The Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Child Care Licensing Bureau (CCLB), has summarily suspended and issued a notice of intent to revoke the group child care home license of Jolene Pickford, located at 7880 East Bacon Road in Hillsdale.

The complaint investigation that concluded on June 7, 2023, found violations of the Child Care Organizations Act and administrative rules, including but not limited to the following:

  • Failure to act in a manner that is conducive to the welfare of children
  • Failure to provide appropriate care and supervision at all times
  • Failure to keep soft objects away from sleeping infants
  • Failure to ensure that all child care staff complete criminal background checks prior to caring for children

Effective 6:00 p.m., on June 8, 2023, the summary suspension order and notice of intent to revoke prohibits Pickford from operating a group child care home at 7880 East Bacon Road, in Hillsdale, or at any other address or location. Accordingly, she may not accept children for care after that date and time. The order also requires the licensee to inform all parents of children in her care that the license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide child care.

It was critical to take emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the children at this group child care home.
