LARA and State Fire Marshal Honors Fallen First Responders on September 11 Anniversary

LANSING, MI – Today, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and its Bureau of Fire Services (BFS) honor the first responders who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as the nation marks the 25th anniversary. 

“As our nation observes this solemn day of remembrance, we commemorate those we lost and we salute the fallen first responders for their bravery and selfless service in the face of tragedy,” said Marlon I. Brown, Director of LARA. “Let us endeavor to carry that spirit of service forward by caring for one another and giving back to our communities.” 

“On September 11, firefighters and first responders answered the call with extraordinary courage, knowing others were in danger and putting service before self,” said State Fire Marshal Tom Hughes. “We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the families who continue to carry their loss, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day. Twenty-five years later, their courage, service and sacrifice remain with us. We will never forget.” 

Director Brown and State Fire Marshal Hughes encourage Michiganders to participate in the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. 

Hughes is attending memorial events throughout Michigan today to pay tribute alongside local communities. As State Fire Marshal and director of BFS, he leads the bureau responsible for providing training and other services to Michigan’s more than 19,500 firefighters.
