LARA Launches New AI-Powered Chatbot to Make Online Services Easier to Navigate

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has launched a new AI-powered chatbot on its public website, designed to make it easier and faster to locate information, access forms, and navigate LARA’s online services. The chatbot became available on September 25.

Available 24/7, the new website feature provides immediate answers to common questions across LARA programs. This chatbot can help with identifying the correct forms, understanding application processes, and quickly finding relevant information and resources on LARA’s website. Responses are generated using information available on Michigan.gov.

“We are constantly striving to make government work better for the millions of Michiganders who rely on LARA for important programs and services,” said Marlon I. Brown, Director of LARA. “This new chatbot is a quick and convenient resource to find the information you need, while also ensuring that our staff remain available to assist with questions that require more individualized support.”

Through the AI chatbot, users can:

  • Get immediate answers to common licensing and regulatory questions
  • Receive step-by-step guidance on forms and application processes
  • Access direct links to relevant Michigan.gov content
  • More easily navigate LARA’s online services

The chatbot is intended to supplement LARA’s existing support options and provide a more efficient resource for routine questions. LARA staff remain fully available through phone and email for anyone needing individualized assistance.

Visitors to Michigan.gov/LARA can access the new tool on desktop and mobile devices by clicking the chat icon in the lower corner of the screen. A chat window will open where users can type or use the microphone feature to ask questions and receive responses, including links to relevant Michigan.gov resources when available.

The AI-powered chatbot is currently in the early launch phase and will continue to improve as the statewide platform evolves. Users are encouraged to verify information and resources provided in chatbot responses and should not enter sensitive, confidential, or personally identifiable information into the chat.
