New skills, new confidence and a new chapter

There was a time when Lorri wasn't sure she'd return to the workforce full-time. Life had taken her in a different direction, and by the time she was ready to start again, the job market looked different. Technology had changed, employers expected new skills, and getting back into the workforce felt intimidating. Still, Lorri knew she wanted a career where she could help others.

With support from Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), Lorri planned to turn that goal into reality.

MRS helped Lorri enroll in Central Michigan University's online Medical Billing Specialist with Electronic Health Records program by providing tuition assistance. The online format gave her the flexibility to complete coursework while managing her daily responsibilities, and each class helped build both her skills and her confidence.

As graduation approached, MRS continued to help her prepare for the next step. Lorri worked with an MRS Rehabilitation Coordinator on her resume, cover letters, recommendation letters, job applications, and interview preparation. This gave Lorri the tools she needed to present herself with confidence.

"MRS believed in me," Lorri said. "They were there every step of the way. They helped me get the training I needed and assisted with my job search. I never felt like I was doing it alone."

Lorri’s hard work paid off when she accepted a full-time position as a Patient Access. Today, Lorri is the first person patients meet when they arrive at the University of Michigan Health–Sparrow at Sparrow Clinton Hospital in St. Johns.

Thanks to MRS’ support, Lorri is building a career she's proud of and is looking toward the future.
