MiUI Minute: Issue 17
January 28, 2026
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). In this issue of the MiUI Minute, we’re providing information about your employer account number in MiUI vs. MiWAM.
MiUI Employer Account Number
How is a MiUI employer account number different than account numbers in MiWAM?
The employer account number (EAN) is the system ID number for each employer account in MiWAM and in MiUI. The EAN in MiUI has a few key differences from MiWAM:
MiWAM |
MiUI |
| The EAN in MiWAM is a 10-digit number. | The MiUI EAN is the first seven digits of the 10-digit MiWAM EAN. For example, if the EAN in MiWAM was 1234567890, the EAN in MiUI will be 1234567. |
| The last three digits of the 10-digit MiWAM EAN denote the location code. | Reporting Unit* details are stored elsewhere in MiUI, so the 7-digit EAN does not include the 3-digit location code at the end. |
| *A secondary location for a company, a different physical location, or a subsidiary – a.k.a. “location” in MiWAM. | |
- The EAN is the simplest way for UIA staff or third-party administrators (TPAs) to find an employer account in MiUI through the various search functions.
- The 7-digit EAN will be used to initiate a MiUI account at Go Live on Feb. 23, 2026. More information on the MiUI account initiation process will be provided soon.
- If an employer account changes status (i.e., reimbursing, contributing, terminated, reactivated), the account will maintain the same EAN. An employer will no longer use multiple EANs, which is the case in MiWAM.
