MiUI Minute: Issue 44

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new unemployment tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI is being launched in two parts, with Tax functions now live, and Benefits functions scheduled to be available on November 9, 2026.

In this issue of the MiUI Minute, we are sharing a reminder about the upcoming Downtime Period leading up to the Go Live of MiUI for benefits functions.

Get Ready for the MiUI Downtime Period

The launch of MiUI for benefits is right around the corner with Go Live scheduled for November 9, 2026. In preparation for this second and final MiUI Go Live, here are some things you need to know and how to prepare.

What is the Downtime Period?

The Downtime Period is a scheduled time during which MiUI will be unavailable to all users to accommodate the transition of Benefits functions from MiWAM to MiUI. The Downtime Period will start at 4:30 p.m. Monday, November 2, and extend through Sunday, November 8. MiUI will be available 8 a.m. Monday morning, November 9. Correspondence, waivers, and claimant data will all be moved from MiWAM to MiUI as part of the information transfer.

During the Downtime Period, all UIA online services, offices, and phone lines will be unavailable while the system update is made. Users are strongly encouraged to complete any required activities in both systems before the start of the Downtime Period as MiUI also will be unavailable.

Note that after the Downtime Period ends, MiUI will be used for all tax and benefits functions while MiWAM will be permanently offline.

Time is Running Out! Initiate your MiUI Employer Account Before Go Live for Benefits

It is very important that employers initiate their own MiUI unemployment account. Even if you have a third-party administrator (TPA), you must maintain your own employer account.

You need your own MiUI account to see benefit claim information or file protests and appeals when MiUI for benefits launches on Monday, November 9, and MiWAM is permanently offline.

Employers must assign the right benefits roles to any TPAs you use and be in the MiUI system to do tasks on your own. These MiUI benefit roles for TPAs must be assigned by employers.

Don’t wait! Initiate your MiUI employer account TODAY! See MiUI Minute #41 for more details.
